I intend to make a Legend of Zelda game on BYOND...
You choose your race:
Zora
Goron
Hylia
Kokiri
Cucco (the ones from twilight princess in the sky world)
Twili
Anouki
Gerudo
It will have a turn-based attack system.
You will buy more spells and weapons and armour soley for your specified race.
You can trade spells and weapons and armour from other races, you just can't purchase them.
Rupees (currency) are not for trade, only item to item.
Rupees are used in stores and battles only.
If chosen to battle someone, you must place a wager of at least 100 rupees.
There are no level ups or experience points, its just stratagey based game-play where anyone, even noobs, can have fun right away.
Tell me what you think...

It's actually a pretty good idea. Not really a big Legend Of Zelda fan unless we're talking Super Nintendo. However I like the idea of battling each other, LOZ or not. But reasonably easy to say it has to be a challenge request because anyone can level up non stop and kill everybody randomly and run the new ones out. I like the idea. I haven't been able to get on in awhile so i don't know whats been going on. Busy life. But keep the ideas fresh.

I agree with Leur. The Deku were one of my favorites; don't forget them!
Although you said no levels, will there be any way other than better spells and armor to get more powerful? Generally, Zelda games let you get a variety of useful and increasingly powerful tools of various types, gain more hearts, and the second Zelda game for NES did even have a specialized leveling system where you gained experience to level up your attack power, magic efficiency and life; you had to spend your experience points to buy the next level in one of those three at a time. |

I just don't want it to become where higher level characters dominate the game...
I was hoping for something stratigic so you can devise plans and be the best at that, instead of being intimidated by lvl 100+ characters. I don't want to have noobs that are desperately trying to level up because that is the most boring part, I want them to jump into the world and start their adventure. And I will add dekus =] |
I have absolutely no idea what I should name this thing...

If I recall correctly, each level of attack, life or magic in the second NES Zelda game had a maximum level of 8.
Still, even having no levels, most Zelda games at least had different levels of weapons. They generally had a sword you got near the beginning, a sword you could get later that was twice as powerful, and then usually a sword that was more difficult to get and which wasn't always obvious where or how to get it that was twice as powerful as the previous one. With this, even the players with the most powerful stuff would only be 2 or 4 times more powerful than beginners. If you want it all about strategy, you need to find a way to make strategy work, regardless of what kind of game it is. Have fun with that, and if you manage to come up with a good system, the game will do well whatever name you give it or whether you call it Zelda or not. Give it plenty of thought and you'll do well! |
I think it's a pretty bad idea, personally. Zelda worked well for single player, or for some gba games, limited multiplayer. The mechanics of the game and the storyline likely won't fare well for a persistent online world. I'm not saying don't do it, but there's a hell of a lot more involved here than a list of races and item trading.

Also, no Dekus? ):
