A guy logged into my game using the name Nick and the key LordxPatrick, he asked if I needed coding help, i did, so I said yes. He said he was gonna send me a file that would help me. I got the file and my anti-virus is set so that it scans a file while it's downloading. This guy tried to send me a file with a backdoor trojan which is commanly used to hack Windows Computers.
I'm going to be honest here: I have never, ever heard of a more pathetic attempt at "hacking" in my life.
OMG, he is sooooo 1337.

Slightly more classy than the people who used to try and do the account restore on MSN, find out the secret question and then bluntly ask that question to their intended target.

Never worked on me, I always set the answer to my secret question as my password, as I knew I was never going to forget it.

Most sites doing a password restore via secret question (or any method, really) would send a new temporary password to the registered e-mail address, and not lock the new password in until it was used once. That way if someone's password was reset by someone else, they could still use their normal password (at which point the temporary one would be discarded), and at the same time the only way to access the temporary password would be to have access to that person's e-mail account.

I would hope MSN does the same.
Semiya5, you can't believe everything you read, see, or hear, even if it comes from an non-sentient and unintelligible software program on your computer. In general, probably half of what your anti-virus flags as "BACKDOOR TROJAN!!?!" is going to be perfectly normal software. This is especially true if you use Norton.

In the future, please don't make topics with ALL CAPS AND LOTS OF PUNCTUATION!!!!!!!!!

Thank you.

By MSN I of course meant Hotmail (my bad). Which in itself is an email service. Back in the days of old, most people used Hotmail for MSN, and because Hotmail is an email service, answering the secret question, you couldn't very well email their password to them, because they had forgotten the password to access the account.

See, the first case I would see as equally pathetic. What you describe was actually thought through to a reasonable degree, however, and so isn't even on the same order of magnitude.
Are you using AVG? If so, ditch it for something good like Avast. AVG detected each MMO I installed as a virus (that wasn't the only reason I ditched AVG, it's laggy as hell).

My Antivirus detects Keylogger in almost every game I try to play, it's because they catch input even when minimized...

I never had that problem with AVG, even though I do agree Avast! is much better. Sounds like your PC was messed up to begin with.

Better yet, Panda Cloud AV, NOD32, or Kaspersky coupled with Spybot. Just ew at avast.

But for those of us cursed and doomed to windows, Stephen. CURSED I SAY.

yea++ to your post.
While it might not be the most brilliant way to get into a person's computer, it is still a way, even if half the user base here does not recognize this.

I think the biggest issue here is that we should now all be aware of how untrustworthy this user is. Thanks for the heads up.
In response to Vic Rattlehead
I have never had that issue with avg, and I've used it for over 6 years.

I'll take the massive variety of non-WINE-emulated computer games over potential no virus' any day.

aVast! has been my virus scanner of choice for years, and it certainly does the job. (Note to self: Minirant on the amount of virus emails I receive per day (~10)...)

So Tiberath, my main man, what is your password?

Kaspersky and Spybot, and your freaking saying ew at Avast? Who on earth runs MULTIPLE virus scanners? Worse then when my roommate thought it was cool to have McAfee AND AVG.
