Bloody Roar? Was that the game where you could transform into a werewolf if you did enough damage or something? My friend had a PS1 demo CD years ago (I'm talking about 7 to 8 years ago!) with it on it, and we absolutely loved it. We weren't supposed to play it though, because it was rated T; needless to say, we just had to be careful and not get caught.

8. Command and Conquer series. Again, not the greatest RTS but a gateway game that can get you hooked to the genre.

I was a big fan of the original, and had a lot of fun with Tiberian Sun (not the same as Tiberium Wars) as well. The original C&C:RA is now a free download... woot. :-)

Red Alert ranks as one of my eldest brothers favourite games (he's seven years older than me, I wonder if that matters...) so after he lost his original copies of Red Alert, he was stoked to see it be released.

After some fiddling, he was over the moon to get the game working properly on Windows Vista. Needless to say, I was just astonished he managed to achieve that.

I'll agree that it's not the best game in the world, but it certainly is a fun one. My only beef with it is the ore runs out too damn quickly and doesn't regenerate nearly fast enough to continue pumping out units. Which in itself is also a means of strategy. Creating the most effective army with as little as possible resources spent.

Sure was. Its to bad you never got to see the full game though, it had a great unique play style to it that forced even the must humble of button mashers to use discretion when fighting.

Yeah, I'm an RPG gamer. No, I don't like Final Fantasy. And yes, I'm too lazy to type out reasons.

Never heard of first two.

Probably because that game was made around 1992. year (i don't know the exact year but it was amongst one of the first games) and in my opinion it Owns any game so far. Not only because the artificial intelligence is the best ever....but because i like space shooters and most of them were made quickly and no potential of being a good game (well atleast the ones i played).
Nobody has even mentioned NetHack? I guess it is overrated after all.

Overrated? I've never even heard of it lol

NetHack as in http://nethack.org? It takes an extreme taste to like it in my opinion.

Not really surprising. I don't suppose you're into roguelikes? They're popular among certain niches, and some people can probably go on and on about their thoughts on how well-crafted NetHack is and how it pulls off good gameplay, it's been active and relatively popular for a while, etc. Some people are just into those kinds of games though, so I suppose it's not really an indicative of how good they are.

I think I just skipped out on those series of late 90's computer games. Back then a computer for me was just a Macintosh that I had to use do do my school homework on. We had a 56k connection and didn't upgrade untill 2001. Thats mostly when I got into computers. By then though the big thing was the RTS games (And Diablo). I spent numerous hours on computer games during those years. I mostly was a retrospect player of older computer games and internet fads.

While I don't care to compile my own list at the moment, I would like to say that I am ashamed that Super Metroid hasn't been mentioned at all.

That's pretty old. Personally I also like Might&Magic series (not Heroes). It's 1st person questing game. You make character and characters for your party, or only your character and hire others (depends which one). They just do quests and try to beat the game.

Might&Magic series include quests, items, monsters, equipment, skills, stats and a lot of other stuff.

It ALWAYS emulated or was 3D. For example 1st one: Image
6th included much better graphics: Image
6th also had introduced rotating (not 90 degree turn)
8th became even better: Image
Almost everything became 3D (mobs remained texture). It had really big veriety of spells and equipment (personally I like it the most)
And the 9th (last one) was released in 2002: Image
It had full 3D support. However lower item/spell variety, and bit dumb plot. Been quite disappointed.

Sadly after that point they stopped making new ones. Next similar release was called Dark Messiah. It was somewhat similar to Might&Magic series but... Different company does different things, was only chance to remember good old times of Might&Magic 8

Well, here I go.

10) Final Fantasy IX - Screw VII, IX was the best. Chibis, more traditional FF elements, great characters and cutscenes, and Star Trek references galore. Currently the only FF game I have cared to beat.

9) Jet Set Radio Future - This game had a great soundtrack, interesting graphics, and a just plain wierd "story." This game mixed graffiti, underground rollerblading, and music to create one of many staples the Dreamcast gave us. The X-Box version is much better.

8) Mirror's Edge - A that plays how I act in real life, except that other people do it, too. Bright, energetic, and intuitive, it's about time the FPS genre lost the neccessity for the 'S' and the HUD.

7) Animal Crossing - I can't even find the words to describe how adiictive this game is. My friend didn't want to let me play becaus ehe was addicted to it. I gave it to my family and they got addicted to it. This game is lick video game heroin. I picked up City Folk yesterday... I haven't started play because I'm afraid of the consequences.

6) Burnout Paradise - Burnout 3 was the first "racing game" that I ever liked. Burnout Paradise is the second and my favorite. So far, this is the only "racing game" that I have played where all the cars don't handle like terds. Freeroam and onlie play were the best additions to the game but because of them, it took me a lot longer to finish the game.

5) Pokemon - Pure and simple. Pokemon games stuck. Rasing Pokemon was always and still is fun, complicated, interesting, and competitive. With and openendness greater than that of any other RPG, these games had a replay value far higher than most any other games.

4) Sonic the Hedgehog: Chao - I [censored] love Chao. I bought a Gamecube for three reasons. Animal Crossing; The Twin Snakes; and Chao. I bought a Dreamcast for the same reason. Rasing Chao is addictive. Even more so to me than Pokemon.

3) Half-Life 2 and its subsequent episodes - Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. This game had everything. An amazing physics engine; a great plotline; great graphics; and the Zero-Point Energy Field Manipulator. My favorite part of this game was the lack of cutscenes. Either sit and listen to the conversations like you were in a cutscene anways, or put everything in the room into a teleporter.

2) Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - Metal Gear Solid was the second game I ever beat. I loved the... everything about it. This reinvention, however, took it to a whole new level. With improved gameplay, graphics, and all the Japanese secrets addd to the American release, it was intense. Not to mention the baddass cutscenes and the Ninja badassedness upgrade making it truly worthy of that M raing.

1) Super Metroid - The game that got me into gaming. First game I completed. Me and my cousin would play this game for days on end. Great graphics, great gameplay, great replay value. Everypart of this game was fun and it nailed a lot of aspects that most side-scrollers, including its sequels never got right.

Honorable Mentions:
MGS2 for a mindf*** that is rare to the gaming world.
Sim City Series
Digimon World
Portal
Super Mario Bros.
Pokemon Snap
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

If you like a lot of platformers, make sure you check out an old but great game called Rayman. Really awesome classic platformer action, stunning graphics, etc.

A big plus on Jet Set: I sure hope we get another one some day.
In response to Mercution
Yes! Jet Set Radio was like one of the best games there was! My top 10 list would be made of N64 games and DreamCast games only, they where just the best systems ever made. My favorite game would have to be:

Silicon Valley(N64): Nothing is better than that, it is the best idea of a game ever, great storyline great style to the graphics, the game is just perfect.
In response to Bakasensei
So many people would like to disagree with you on the DreamCast thing :P. Yeah, sure, it was the most advanced consoles at the time when it was released, but no one bought it, it's like the PS3 of the late 1990's/early 2000's.
