In my personal experience, gaming notebooks and never worth it. The battery life is terrible, it's extremely large and difficult to carry around. Extremely large? It's a 15.4 inch screen. It's a standard size laptop. Even with a nine-cell battery it's not going to be all that heavy. If your going for gaming, just get a Desktop PC. Unless you go to friends' houses and LAN parties all the time, in which case lugging around a desktop and monitor gets extremely tiring. Remember, in a laptop you'll want excellent battery life, lightweight, and portability. That may be what you want, but may not be everyone's choice. If he's going to be gaming, he's probably going to be plugged in to the outlet. The nice thing? If he wants to take it downstairs, he can move it. If he wants to take it to school, he can bring it. If we wants to go to a friends' house, it's as easy as putting it in a messenger bag case and walking. It's not going to get that much worse battery life (if at all) doing standard operations than any other computer. And, again, a 15.4 screen laptop is still plenty portable, I take one with me to work and school every day. Not everyone diggs ultra-portables. |

The only thing you seem to disagree with is good battery life... Based on your jabber, you too value lightweight and portability. XD (Nice job contradicting yourself.)

I think the point he was making is that a laptop is a laptop. Any laptop is going to be portable. Even today's bulkiest, heaviest laptop will be more portable than a desktop.

I know that, I'm just talking from personal experience. As long as it has great battery life, and doesn't weigh a ton, I'd get it. I just hated my HP laptop because it was such a pain to take anywhere, it was really heavy after carrying it around for 30 minutes. |

Nah, doesn't look like it, or at least the way he phrased his post to try and get it through didn't make sense.

Hmm, I think you don't.
If you've seen many of Flame Sages posts about laptops, you'll know he gets wet for things like the Macbook Air (or whatever the heck it is) and the ASUS EeePC. My point was, 1) Flame Sages idea of the perfect laptop is not everyone's idea of the perfect laptop (regardless of whether a gaming laptop fits into the definition or not), and 2) exactly as Volte clarified, that a laptop is basically, by definition, a portable computer. Quote wikipedia, emphasis my own, "A laptop computer, or simply laptop (also notebook computer, notebook and notepad) is a small mobile computer, typically weighing 3-12 pounds (around 1.3 to 5.4 kilograms)..." Flame Sage is pushing his long battery life and lightweight ideas, claiming that gaming laptops aren't. Again, as a gaming computer, he's probably going to be plugged in while gaming, so the battery life doesn't matter. Secondly, if you buy the computer with a 6 or 9 cell battery (which I'm sure it comes with anyway) and it's got the same battery life as any other computer (doing standard computer tasks). And even 9 cell batteries don't add much weight. Of course the only reason you buy a laptop is because you want to move it around. I speak from experience when I say taking desktops to friends' houses every weekends, especially when you can't afford a flatscreen monitor, sucks. You don't need an EeePC to have a portable laptop, because they all are. P.S. No one gets to bring up the "luggables" from the 80s. |

I was never trying to push my "ideas" on other people, he just asked a question asking if it was a good notebook, and I replied.
I heard the macbook got bad reviews though. The new DELL ones are supposed to be pretty nice. |

If your going for gaming, just get a Desktop PC.
