can't list directory on byond site

I have a directory for my site and a file saved under it. For the file, I have checkboxes for hide and list. For the directory, the checkboxes aren't there. I think this is why the file doesn't show up on the site even though I checked the boxes to list it.

Question: are directories not generally list-able of did I do something wrong?

Directories aren't really listable or anything like that; they're just organizational tools.

The reason listed files in a directory don't show up presently is I just haven't updated the query that pulls listed files to look in subdirectories yet. That's on my list.
