What about games that aren't accepted into a guild for whatever reason? You CANT find those games now, and that's annoying. I submitted Megaman Wars to BYOND Action but I haven't heard a word back from them yet and now players are having trouble finding the game. It's a bit unsettling.

Live games that aren't in a guild are invisible now.

Wouldn't Megaman Wars be more of a fangame? I don't know much about Megaman, but I know it is an anime, is it not? And anime games should be placed into fangames, because regardless of what subgenre they are, they are mainly fangames.

No. Some of the art is anime-styled, but it's not an anime.

There is no fan games section any more. =) The idea is that nobody specifically says "I want to play a fan game"; they might say "I want to play a game based on my favourite anime", but those people don't necessarily have much in common with Megaman fans, I'm guessing. Or FF fans or DW fans.

So fan games should go into the next-most-appropriate guild. In this case, Action. Though of course the no-charging-for-fangames rule applies regardless.

Nvm the whole post, we were added today. I swear I checked earlier and we weren't....

But the problem's still there for other games.

Well considered the fact that it's not anime I agree with out.

However, on the other comments. A DBZ game should go straight to BYOND Anime, regardless of how RPG or Action orientated it is. That's what I meant with my comment.
Here's a list of reasons why.
1)The main reason is locating games without the confusion and trouble. If the old game page was back i think alot of people would greatly appreciate it.
2)I here people saying,"But I don't feel like looking in the comments for an "all games" link, I just want one on the page for games."

Well if you have anything to add to this please post thanks.

This is just getting annoying. Seriously, where do all the games that are NOT in guilds go?

I mean, they accepted into a category, or they don't. What about the games of which are new, or have no connection WHATSOEVER to any form of category. Where do they go?

I guess we create a void for that or something. Sure, we don't like rips. But...we like games that are not rips right? So then do we have to...already know exactly what we are searching for in order to begin to look for something?

What happens if you just want to browsing for a fun game, or a new game that was recently created but you don't know of it because you don't know the name? What happens to them? Do ALL new games that are not instantaneously thrown into a category just die because THEY CAN'T GET ACCEPTED?

Well, BYOND Anime is kind of.... Lame. I mean, sorting them into there because its based on an anime is just wrong. Thats basically making more selective pool of what we had before, random games you had to sort through yourself to see what it was. The BYOND Anime guild shouldnt even exist seeing as some of those games are RPG, some Action, some could be placed in an "Other" category. Of course if thats how people REALLY want it, then maybe it should have sub divisions for game type because last time I checked, "Anime" wasn't a gameplay genre.

In guilds! Every game will be in a guild. Think of it as a (finally!) sorted unpublished section. Guild staff may choose to only feature certain games, but all of the guild's games will be listed.

Hmmm this is a bad move indeed I think the action taken here will cause in loss of many byonders.

Actually, Megaman was an american cartoon (made long after the game's creation).
The cartoon was made some time after the game's creation.
Megaman's first game was released in 1987, and the original cartoon started in 1994.
Alot of today's generation probably don't even know of it.

Fangames are games made by fans featuring popular characters based on one or more established video games or the like, and in that sense, it would have still belonged in the fangame section.

('still belongs' changed to 'still belonged' after reading Crispy's post)

Jeeze people! Of course you are not going to like this system because it's new and unfarmilar. This is kind of the same feedback as BYOND Pager; a lot of peolpe hated it, a lot of people liked it.

If you guys don't like it so much, stop complaning to dantom, they do a lot of work for you guys. :)
When attempting to find products, there are people who actively search for something and those who like to sift through random material until they find something that strikes them as nice.

With the coming of guilds, perhaps a very simple 'Random Choices' search option could be provided - You could select X amount of guilds, and it'd give you Y amount of random games from those guilds. This would satisfy the need for those people who do like to browse randomly. You could add a 'Take rank into consideration' checkbox thats on by default, which makes sure that the random games returned are at least relatively highly placed within the guilds.

Will the games live be back up? I think it would be hard for people to find games that aren't in an official guild.

There's now an "Unpublished" link in the games site sidebar. As you can see, there aren't currently a lot of live games that aren't in the official guilds.

No, it isn't. But there is a large community of anime fans on BYOND. The Anime guild serves to give them their own place to hang out and find other games that they might like. Sorting the games by genre isn't really the point... the idea is that it's more useful to have them sorted by interest group. So Casual is supposed to appeal to players who just want to pick-up-and-play a quick game every now and then. Strategy is for the more hardcore people who like more complex games and don't mind sitting around waiting a bit more. Anime is for people who are into anime. And so on.

This should also satisfy the crowd that gets really annoyed at the anime crowd, since the latter is nicely sectioned off. =) Everyone wins!

I back this up. I think it's important that you can see all of the games that are live. The categories do have their functions; If someone is looking for a live strategy game, they can just go through the strategy guild, but for things like browsing games having something that shows all of the games live is far more convenient.
i personally loved the old way things were set up maybe if you can set games i ncatigorys but with the old layout o.o
In response to Alathon
Good idea, but it strikes me as a little complex for the truly passive, casual browser. A simple "Random Game" button would probably be a better idea... especially if it was keyed to only bring up live games at the moment... with perhaps an "advanced" link next to it that gave other options.

People who browsed in from the outside looking for a game, any game, to play could use the random button. BYONDers just looking to find something new could use the more in-depth one.

Just some thoughts.
I hate the new byond layout. I can never find the game I want when I dont know the name of it. if you agree totally post!
