I was reading through my new issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, and saw an official Ad for Napster. It says, "Listen to over 2 million FREE SONGS, at Napster.com. Really, The music's free. So, there's really no fine print to read."
So finally, the service that I first started using back in 1999, is free again!

So far, what I've seen is that the 30 second previews are free for all, you need to register to listen to songs (no payment required), you can purchase the songs and direct download them, or you can subscribe to the service for a certain fee.

You can only listen to a song 3 times before you have to get a "paid membership."

Hah. All you need to do is run something like Total Recorder and you can copy the music over.

That's pretty good provided you're using it to sample music before you buy (which is what pretty much everyone who defended old Napster claimed to be doing).
