Will BYOND 4.0 support MP3s, and while I am asking that sort of thing, what kinds of soundfiles WILL be supported?
|
May I recommend NCH Switch? I've been using that program for over a year now.

MP3s have licencing fees. 'Nuff said.
If you really want to work around it, you could probably set up some sort of browser page with an embedded mp3, and send that to the player. |
Not with open source encoders/decoders.
"Thomson has stated that individuals using free MP3 encoders are not required to pay fees." and the good news is that anyone can use it in 2010 :P. "The Fraunhofer patents expire April 2010, at which time MP3 algorithms become public domain." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3 |

Hopefully BYOND 4 will be out long before [2010]. Hah! So will HRH 2! |
I'm fairly certain that Audacity allows for MP3 to Ogg conversions.

Encoders, sure, but not decoders; and only for individuals. BYOND isn't an individual.
BYOND would need to incorporate a decoder in order to use MP3s, and Thomson only exempts open source programs from having to licence their use of a decoder. One day software patents will be illegal. One day. *shakes fist* I second Smoko's suggestion of Audacity for converting MP3s to OGG format. |
BYOND 3.5 supports .mid/.midi, .mod, .it, .s3m, .xm, .oxm, .wav, .ogg, .raw, .wma, and .aiff.
