Nintendo started the gaming industry, no, it IS the gaming industry, you can't say it failed if it's still on top.
In response to Raiki
no atari started it but nintendo owned atari by making gaming better

i don't think nintendo was hurt at all by the gamecubes lack of sales. As i stated above it sold a little less than the X-Box. It has so much support in Japan it's going to take quit a few console losses to shut down Nintendo. The gamecube to Nintendo was like a 100,000 dollars falling out of Bill Gates Pocket, he has plenty more where it came from.

Aye, Nintendo does tend to keep it original.
Also, Nintendo plans to have atleast 4 million units ready for sale this Christmas, and the pricing will not exceed $250 on the Wii.

It's pretty easy to understand what he means.
He thinks that the "Nintendo Revolution" is a better sounding name than the "Nintendo Wii".

i know the intent, but if he could learn to use commas and such, it wouldn't be so bad...

You people are starting to really annoying me.

Nintendo has been around just as long, if not longer then Sony. They didn't always sell video games you know.

Nintendo has had only one or two real console losses and that is the Nintendo Virtual Boy and the Nintendo DD. Other then that, all of their other systems were around for years and had support for years.

Nintendo actully makes a profit on each system they sell (unlike Sony and Microsoft..) and by the time the sales on each system drops to like $50.00 they are actully only loseing a small fraction of what they actully paid to make each system.

Besides that, with combined Sales from Nintendo products Nintendo usually makes more then Sony, Microsfot and sometimes both of the compines combined.

The only way Nintendo would go down and stay down for good was if they had terrible, terrible sales losses for a long time. Which never happens as Nintendo is a great game developer.

About the 3rd party thing. Did you know that right now, it has been said out of all 3 next gen systems the Wii is going to be the easiest to develope for? And thats not all, most mayjor 3rd party compines that drop Nintendo in the past are getting on along for the Wii ride.

Damn right. From sources I've read (inc. wikipedia) Nintendo is over one hundred years old.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo:

Nintendo Company, Limited (Japanese: 任天堂, ニンテンドー Nintendō; NASDAQ: NTDOY, TYO: 7974 ) is a multinational corporation founded on November 6, 1889 in Kyoto, Japan by Fusajiro Yamauchi to produce handmade hanafuda cards, for use in a Japanese playing card game of the same name.

Founded: November 6, 1889

Compare this with Sony:

Founded: May 7, 1946 (adopted current name in 1958)

Sony be just a small fry in comparison to Nintendo. Love live Ninty and all that.

And thats not all, most mayjor 3rd party compines that drop Nintendo in the past are getting on along for the Wii ride.

Ah, so everyone's wanting Nintendo's Wii, eh?
Gonna have a GOLDEN SHOWER of third party support, right?

(Did you get that. I capitalised the word that made it funny just in case.)

When you are talking about the Wii/Cube's success, you have to remember that we are basing our opinions on how well it did in USA. Look at it this way: In Japan, Dragon Quest 7 was one of the best selling games in Japan. It broke many records for sales, yet when they sent it to the USA, it barely sold at all. The Japanese community and the American society are two different things, especailly when it comes to gaming. You can never base a consule's success by how well it does in the USA, they are more conserned with how it does in the homeland, Japan.

Virtual Boy wasn't a complete waist. It was a really good idea, except the only flaw was the color they chose. If they chose something else, it wouldn't have been such a failure. Besides, they didn't waist much money on it, a total of (OH BOY) 12 Games total were made for it, 90% of them really small and would take a week to make, if not less.

BTW, what was the DD? Sorry if its something I should know >_>

The N64 Dynamic Drive attachment.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_64DD
In response to Polantaris
If you didn't want to bother to read that, it was bascailly a big tape drive add-on for the N64, that would enchance games and let you play some new stuff. It only came with 2 games I think. Sim City DD and Mario Paint DD.

Another failure I just thought of was the Super Nintendo BS which was a satalite attachment for the Snes in Japan that would let you download and play games from right out of your living room for a fee. At the time the entire thing was expensive, including the monthly payments and it didn't last very long.

Only 1 or 2 games came out for it. The biggest being Zelda BS, a remake of the NES Legened of Zelda with much better sprites. There was a time limit to the game, and you could only download like 1 chapater of the game a week.

Before the game could finish, the BS thing got shut down and no one got the last chapter of the game, lol.
In response to Shades
With a name like BS, it had to fail.

Nintendo made profit on every unit they sold, same can not be said for the xbox. The only thing i would buy a playstation for would be pro evolution soccer. Tekken has gone poop now, the story line is messed up.
I will buy a Nintendo w(double i) because it is different plus it has the games i really like. And knowing Sony most ps3's will be faulty at release. So i would say wait a good year to buy sony, well i am.
Speaking of the Wii, check out the !!M

Now that's an inspired choice of name. Clever.

I must admit the name Nintendo Wii is starting to grow on me.

Nintendo lost profits from the Virtual Boy. Due to the fact that many children playing it got problems from playing it, like seizures, blindness, etc, they got sued and lost more money than they recieved. Thats why the USA version of the Virtual Boy has that big fat "PLEASE STOP PLAYING ME FOR A WHILE" warning after playing for like 30 minutes on every game for it.

Should I give up on asking for even a smidgeon of proof of this completely inaccurate, wild statement?

Source please.

Source and companies ? And show of proof that its any different for Sony/MS ? And if it isn't, did said 3rd party companies *ever* drop Sony/MS to begin with?

Meh, I give up. You'll continue to spout statements with no factual support at all, and I'll continue to call you on it and get ignored. Video game propaganda, interesting ;)
