5million dollars

Well, (From memory) Neopets was bought for a couple of million dollars (Around that :P). Since BYOND is a really good program with a really good community, it would cost probably twice as more... possibly more :P
|
there is probably no serious amount - this topic has been mentioned in the past, and Dantom has already turned down attempts at being bought. they have no real desire to 'sell-out' - at least not anytime soon.
now, if the sum were sufficiently high that they could retire from the sale of BYOND, it might draw their attention- but that is only something that Dan and Tom can decide. of course you can always invest in BYOND so that they can quit their jobs and focus on BYOND completely. again that is something for them to discuss with you in private - not here. besides, BYOND is freely downloadable! were you actually able to buy the 'company', odds are you would want to start charging for BYOND. and that is something we know Dan and Tom are adamantly against. |

Since BYOND is a really good program with a really good community, it would cost probably twice as more... possibly more :P BYOND has a lot of potential to make some great games, but it has rather limited earning potential. Incom is entirely variable since it's entirely optional whether user pay, and I doubt it makes mega-bucks every month. In summary: Needs More Cobbo. Er, needs more money-making methods. |
It looked like you said "Smillion dollars" at first. I was like "That's a flippin' sweet number." But then I noticed you didn't. That's why I'm saying it.
It will cost a smillion dollars. |
Basically:
BYOND doesn't have a really monetary value. Much like a child is to a parent, BYOND is to Dan and Tom. It is something they have invested a lot of time and money into, and the price would have to be huge(like "buy a small island" huge) for them to give it up. On top of that, BYOND doesn't generate much cash. Until members, it didn't even generate enough to pay for its own bandwidth. To put it in the simplest terms: BYOND is not for sale. |
it is worth a lot to the developers, the supporting staff, and the BYOND developer and gaming community.
that, in its own way, is priceless. |

BYOND is not commercial. And therefor I highly doubt that it's ever gonna be sold, because I highly doubt any buyer would buy a gaming/developing engine without commercial purposes.
