Revolution? Nahh. Call it Wii!

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

I had someone I know from England message me talking about how wii is slang for pee over there, so it might not have the same meaning.

I think Wii is an odd name and not as good as the Revolution.

wee = pee not wii =) wii's just...wii..XD

I prefer Revolution as well =o
Wii hate you. >_>

Also, "Wii" is the stupidest name ever.

*edit*

Also, what the hell!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Revolution was the best - and probably only non-retarded name Nintendo has come up with in years.
What are they thinking? Wii!?

Someone at Nintendo HQ is mocking us. Depriving us of our dreams. Do you think I'm gonna get chicks now!?
"Hey baby, wanna come play on my wii with me?"

No. Unless she was into urine related sex-games, no.

No.

*edit*

Damnit it, Nintendo!

Damnit! Why?

This better be a joke. This better be April 1st. This better be a dream.

*edit*

No. No. No. No.
Now I just think of urine.

*edit*

I'm like. Torn. I am having some kind of strange mental reaction.
Oh god.

First, project Dolphin is called "Gamecube".
Now, Revolution to Wii?

What went wrong?
Solution: Less Japanese people deciding what to call a console marketted in a different country.
I'm not being racist here, I'm being freakin' realistic. What, you want me to go get an English-to-Japanese dictionary, look up a Japanese profanity/insult then call my product it and try market it over there?

You call that fair?
Eh?
Well do you?

Nintendo Wii?
God. Damn.

*edit*

YOU THINK I HAD NO REASON TO COMMIT SUICIDE NOW!?!?

EH!?!?!
EH!!!!?

*edit*

Hold on. Good idea. I could get Nintendo to change it back my sacrificing my life for you guys. :)

I like Wii, but not as much as the Revolution. Atleast its something different that people cant really make fun of console names, like XBOX(I thought the name was lame) or Playstation(I can think of a million rip offs for the same console.)

I think it's original.
Xbox 360 .. Playstation 3...
I'd also daresay 'Revolution' doesn't really FIT with Nintendo's image, does it? 'Wii' sounds challenging, just like their consoles. Originality, not acting tough with uberbwtfshizzle inside it, but focussing on having the funnest and best gameplay games.
This new name is kinda bizarre. I thought the revolution controller was very stupid but I eventually liked it..I'm not so sure about this though...This name seems like more of a gimmick than anything...

I wonder if Nintendo will get a new mascot with the Wii controller. I mean, you got a new way to play FPS, but you also have a new genre of games. Can you say...FPN?(First Person Ninja!) our controller is your sword! The fun!
...I have no comment.

Maybe Wii means something in Japanese.

Can anyone make a Jap - Eng translator? None of them work! They cant even tell me what 'Ao' is in English(for all you none Jap-lit people, Ao is Blue...)

Yeah I went to the web site and checked it out. Their name explantation is impressive to say the least, I expect nothing less from Nintendo.

For years people were dissing Nintendo for not having gone on line for such a long time. But they were right, Nintendo prevelious said they were very intrested in online gaming, but they felt the time and hardware were not ready.

And thats what I love about Nintendo, they do think about the comsumer. Instead of releasing outragouesly powerful hardware with a expensive internet service they wait. And then a few years later they come out to offer a completely online, out of the box, free gaming solution.

The name is thoughtful, it is cleaver and it is smart. It is a orginal name. And I like it.

Of course, you will get the same idiots who say stuff like Legend of Celda saying, Nintendo Weewee.

Those guys can burn in hell.
Personally, I think it's a clever play on words, and I like it. Sure, it might not sound as fancy as "Revolution" but it sure does beat "2", "3" and "360".

If you can't not make a pee joke, you don't deserve to play it.

Maybe you actually need to type in Japanese characters (Hiragana and Kanji and what-not).

You're all missing the point. Not only is Wii a bad name, but it's more shocking that they chose that over something like "Revolution".

Everyone likes Revolution! People power and all that.

Just in;

I think they wanted a name that was very unique. Because this system is not about an upgrade of an old system. This is about an entirely new way to play, an entirely new type of system..

E3 for us is all about the games. We understand that when you announce a name it’s going take a bit of time to get comfortable with it, and when we get to the show we want the focus to be completely on the games, and the gameplay. The focus of E3 is to get everyone to play this system. You can only appreciate the system when you play it. I know for a long time we’ve been talking about all the possibilities, and I know you guys have been talking about all of the possibilities of the system. The key is to focus on the games and the gameplay at E3, not a name, but anything but that.

"Please step this way for a Wii demonstration"

It just hit me. That's what the people have to say. A Wii demonstration (or something like that)

*tries not to die laughing*

Rubbish. That's like me saying "Hey guys, my name is Yellow Liquid Secreted from Genetalia, but it's my personality that's important".

Thankfully that's not the case; my name is Farm Girl Elly, which is a pretty damn great name.
I don't like it. We already grew to know and love the Revolution as the consoles name, why change it now?

Kinda like Longhorn and Vista. I liked the name longhorn, thought it symbolized power and stability. But then they went and changed it to Vista, which sounds like a word a magician might say to finish a trick.

"And Vista, we have a new OS [you see somebody shoving a modified XP disc in the drive]".

Wii is not good because it does, as somebody else pointed out, sound very unattractive. It doesn't appeal to me, and makes it feel like the system is aimed at a kid, even if it isn't. Revolution, on the other hand, made you feel as if it was a change, a major change. Something new that could only be brought about by a core change in the philosophy and thought of games. Wii is the sound someone makes while jumping off a cliff(at least in my mind).

Names mean a lot, dispite what many have claimed. They can make or break a system, on sheer "cool factor" alone. The big N doesn't really have to worry about "cool factor" completely breaking on of their systems, because they have fanboys, but it could hurt sales, a lot.
