Actually, it's not too confusing. If the player carries just one jem (lets say, fire) he or she is slowly transformed into a fire avatar. At a certain point, the character (without prompting by the player) either walks (hard) or teleports (easier) to a cage in the original hiding place of the Fire Jewel. On arrival, your soul is moved to the nether realm (make a little mob wander in the cage, change the player's icon to a spirit and put them in a "nether realm"). There is a quest or puzzle to do in the netherworld. On success, you get your body back. On failure, you die.

A simpler version I just came up with was that your body simply explodes after a certain amount of infusion of any unopposed energies... that would be fun to create an animation for...

In hindsight, yeah, it is a little complicated. Maybe I'll think of something else for you in a while.

Depending on how the gems are gunna work like if there literally magical stones of imeasurable power...you could have em be the treasure of the corresponding towns...like a massivly religious *no offense* group would covet the light gem as their comunique to their gods..and in order to get it you can steal it (bringing in the dark side)...this path would give you the stone but maybe less powerful becuz its tainted and then in order to attain its true power you must right your wrong or something?...or you can do quests for the temple peoples then they present you their top champion the stone...this way you can have a single stone of mass destruction and then it would hold with it some fame.
  • Read Angels and Demons. It will inspire you...
  • Play Fallout. It will give you an idea of where to hide things.

Or maybe you can make riddles, like...
You found a piece of paper.
    You read it:

The Red Elemental can be find where the goodness shall point.

Taht would be like, a statue of an angel pointing to a Hole or Room, andi nside that you can find the Fire gem.

It would be awesome to have an Angels-and-Demon's-Mystery type of game. It would be a-w-e-s-o-m-e.

The gemss literally keep the world together, so yea, imeasurable power =P

I like the idea of having more than one way to go about retrieving the stone, though I think I'll stick with just one way..per character at least (four playable chars =))

  • I've read Angels & Demons. I loved it. It didn't inspire me though...it didn't actually include Angels/Demons either =o

I've never heard of Fallout. *stare*

I was planning on little riddles - I'm placing statues in towns, which when examined will tell the player part of the story about the gems, or rather, a specific one, so they can work out from that where the gem might be. Hehe ^_^

Riddles, so you actually need to think in a BYOND game.

Also, you never heard of fall-u-too?
Read this and the next .. 5 ones or so. =P

here's my idea, for what its worth(i've been toying with a game heavly involving elements)

-----Light
-im sure you have enough ideas for light, so i won't go there
-----Dark
-possibly alternate mirror world, I like those kinda things, hells an idea, but for something slightly more unorthadox, send the players into a psionic cult/gang, basicaly subjecting people to mental/status effect rape, as well as rendering your physical attacks almost useless. an idea from FF9, make your dark area reverse your equipment stats, so the weaker your equipment, the stronger your character
-----Earth
-travle through a large overgrown medow till you find a cave, and travle deep into earth until you fight a huge shroom dragon. the native dwarves, freed from the opresive shrooms, mine some more, return later and recieve the gem
-----Fire
-meanwhile, being so deep in the earth, you find a lava stream, blah blah, just try and stay away from the sterotypical dragon idea, maybe as minor enemies. if you dont want lava/valcanos, maybe you ride a jetstream to an oasis, leading you into a deasert for the fire region.
-----Water
-to stay away from the whole lake/ocean idea, go in the direction of a snowy region, and a glacier golem. perhaps a gang of pirates or something. pirate vs viking gang wars? you run with this one...
-----Lightning
-for this one, I'd suggest intoducing a large mechanical plant, where some unknown, highly advanced machinery exists, living off of the power of the stone, so naturaly, you gotta evade swarms of self-repairing machines to get to the power core.

Dark - You have to mix some items together, to create a sort of 'Alternate Dimension Cube' thingy, that , when used, takes you to the 'Dark' version of the Moon.

The dark side of the moon maybe? =)

Hahaha, yeah, or the Dark World Moon. Oooh, teh scaryness!

Just saying, but high-tech machinery doesn't seem to mix well with something as primal as a basic element.

Maybe they can be remenants of a weapon used by an ancient civilization?

dang quit quarreling and see my thinking;

Light: you have to take a portal to pluto (the smallest planet and the less likeley to get hit by light)

Dark: Somewhere on earth, like a desert (deserts get hit with loads of sun)

Water: place it on mercury (the hotest planet, since it's closest to the sun)

Fire: place it within a giant glacier in the middle of a huge ocean (therefor you have the counter element)

Wind: place it deap in the earth burried deep within the tunnels underneath a ruin of a city (i have no comment for this one :-D)

Earth: i have no idea for this one, im thinking a wind plane (as in a wind feild but much larger).

those are my 50 cents.. :-D

lol I ended up reading the entire lot ^_^;; NEVER link me to comics XD; I did a Google on Fallout and all I got was Halflife..which I kinda thought was just a game where you had to shoot everything?

I remember that part </3

I like the idea of an alternate world as well, even if it would be a pain to map =P

-----Earth
-travle through a large overgrown medow till you find a cave, and travle deep into earth until you fight a huge shroom dragon. the native dwarves, freed from the opresive shrooms, mine some more, return later and recieve the gem

...what? Are you on something? ^_^; I like the idea of having NPCs retrieve the stone though ^_^

-----Fire

Don't have much to say on this one..seriously. I've sat here for 5 minutes thinking XD; I like desert areas though.

-----Water

The pirate/viking war works better than you realise. Considering one of the playable characters is a pirate. =)

I'm not such a big fan of machines...but I can still work on something similar, even if its not a hiding place ^_^ (maybe a TRICK hiding place?)

VolksBlade wrote:

The gems were hidden at a time when no-one was aware of other planets. Plus its not based in the REAL world/galaxy/universe (well, maybe universe =P) so they wouldn't have known about/had Pluto to hide any of the gems on =P

Dark: Somewhere on earth, like a desert (deserts get hit with loads of sun)

As previously stated, I like deserts, so maybe I will =)

Water: place it on mercury (the hotest planet, since it's closest to the sun)

*points up*

Fire: place it within a giant glacier in the middle of a huge ocean (therefor you have the counter element)

I like that - it'd give need for the pirate character (even if it gets stolen by whoever you're playing as if not him)

Wind: place it deap in the earth burried deep within the tunnels underneath a ruin of a city (i have no comment for this one :-D)

Actually one character begins living in a ruined city, so there's gonna be a place like that anyway - quite easy to slip a gem in there. Besides, who'd suspect a place like that?

Earth: i have no idea for this one, im thinking a wind plane (as in a wind feild but much larger).

Why is earth always the hardest to hide? lol. But yeah, I like the idea of that ^_^

*phew* I thought people'd stop replying to this after a day or two o_o;; lol

yay u liked some of my idea's :p

hay, i like evil mutant shroom enemies, ok? shrooms are definatly more out-of-the-ordinary than lets say, an evil rock or something.
but yeah, me and my brother are both rather, well, i guess you could use the word geeky, we play many vidio games and are very creative with our own ideas, as are some of my friends, my e-mail is [email protected] and my AIM is big the ed, incase you want some more ideas, or if you'd like to run some ideas past me.
also, how good are you at coding, scale of 1-10?
In response to Big the ED
probably a minus 20 there mate =P
In response to JMT
ah... oh well, just thought i'd ask, i can make a good realtime battle system, but i also want to make a largly graphic based turn based fight sequence, but i guess i'll look elsewhere. anywho, good luck!

Water: place it on mercury (the hotest planet, since it's closest to the sun)

Depends on your definition of 'hottest'. Mercury reaches the highest temperatures, but Venus is actually warmer on average. Mercury doesn't have an atmosphere, so heat isn't transferred from the 'light side' to the 'dark side' rather well. The result is that one side is at 400-500 degrees Celsius, and the other is at -150. Venus, on the other hand, has a nice thick atmosphere and runaway global warming to trap heat.

Perhaps the Stone of Fire could be hidden within an ever-burning Mansion that consists of many obstacles and puzzles to get around. A literal smoking mirror where smoke is billowing from it and making it impossible to access a hall, a corridor that has fireballs and heating platforms...all kinds of things, if you put your mind to it.
