I had a chance to play as a gunslinger on a private server that has implemented the new classes... pretty awesome :D
I've always wanted to take a shotgun and fight off hordes of Zombie Orcs... and now I can! ^_^

I never liked the idea of Guns in RO... Meh, did they already get that Martial Arts guy in Pservers? I'm not going to re-pay for my RO account to test them out. :/

Ragnarok Online has officially jumped the shark.
Ninjas are annoying enough nowadays, but why a game would ever put guns into what would otherwise be a medieval-based setting is Byond me. |

Ragnarok is set in a steamfont setting, therefore guns are reasonable if you think about it.

What's Steamfont? That phrase is new to me.

If Steamfont is what I think it is, then they should add revolvers and muskets. Not what appears to be dual-semiautomatic handguns.

Steamfont being a world based around magic and technology, where magic improves the technology and vice versa, you usually get out of place weapons. Final Fantasy VII is a perfect example, while the world was advanced it just didn't seem advanced enough to have these huge machines, large automatic weapons, and giant flying ships, but due to the nature of its world, it did. This game isn't based off of the real world, they can put whatever they want into it, even if it isn't what you think they should do.

I only have to collect a few more items to make my gatling gun... the server has been down for a few hours, though :(

It's just that it seems to come off as "hey, this sounds cool! LET'S ADD THIS!" and the end result is something really awkward.
Taking the FF7 example, I can't imagine why anybody would be running around without a gun, or if it was because swords were more powerful then how on earth could they create laser beams and rocket ships and aye yie yie. :o |

Well I don't really see how it comes off as really awkward, if the developers think it is an addition to the game that could create more opportunities for players to have fun then it is something to be tried.
Also, I can't see how swords being more powerful than guns would constitute a society's inability to create laser beams and rocket ships, however, it would most likely stagger the society's interest in the development of such things. Games are not meant to be realistic most of the time, anyways, so it really is irrelevant, if Ragnarok was going for a realistic feel then I doubt it would have magic, monsters, robots, and the liking. |

steamfont? sounds more like words/letters drawn in fog. :p
maybe you mean 'steampunk', since that term has been around a lot longer. sounds like EQ2 is trying to revive steampunk with a new name. |
I never cared for any of the fan servers because either the exp and drop rates were so high it was stupid, or the PK was out of control and no one cared.
A good example is, level #Inf. charaters would like stand outside the gates where most of the Newbies hang out and kill them in one hit just to be an ass. I never cared for the offical servers either, because it took too damn long to level up or find anything. It took you like 2 weeks to get enough gold for what you wanted, which took too long in my opinion. Also I didn't like the LACK of PK in the offical servers. I think both fan servers and the offical servers have some serious work before they will be any good. |

The slower EXP rates wouldn't have bothered me so much if finding cards and other item drops weren't so frustrating. I would only see fan servers with a zillion EXP/job EXP rates and...1 item drop rate. I would have liked more room for customization than "spend hours trying to get one card and use it on just the right weapon or else it and the weapon is wasted forever mwahaha" sort of thing. :/

Actually, 3/3/5 rates would be fine. Exp for both base and job isn't too easy, and getting a fine drop is no longer impossible. Still, I've tryed updating my Sakray and it doesn't work. I'm left behind forever T.T;;.
