I heard Ps3's "blue chips" stock crashed not too long ago causing the price to sky rocket. The estimated price for the system topped out at over $700, if its true im glad to hear it. Im sick of all the sony fans saying that xbox 360 sucks, both are obviously good systems and if this is true the 360 will go for half of the price of what the ps3 does. Anyone heard anything one this?

And the X-Box 360 doesn't suck? I am a sony fan, they produce a good system, that runs well and does not slow down over long gaming sessions like most consoles. The 360 has nothing special about it that my computer doesn't already have. I would venture to guess that the PS3 will have the same thing going for it, but the big difference is that the Sony tends to have a lot more styles of games that would not work well on the PC. For example, sly cooper. The X-Box tends to be aimed at first person shooters and the like, which already work great on PC and normally better.
I understand that not everone has the ability to build thier own, or budget to but a nice computer, so I do not go around slandering the X-Box 360 for being a dumbed down PC, but it is. I expected PS3 prices to be about $700 anyways, which isn't much more than the x-box 360 and I do plan on buying one. And half the price? To get an X-Box 360 worth playing you will spend at least $500. Then pay $10 a month to play it online(Which my PC can do for free). I have heard rumers of PS3 having an online subscription fee too, and I sure hope they are wrong(Unless they find a way to make it worth it). I don't pay for a $60 game and than have to pay $10 a month just to enjoy it with my friends, homme don't pay that way. |

The 360 is special, mine died after a week due to overheating. Bet your computer can't do THAT!

I woulden't worry too much about the ps3 these things tend to happen the stock should balance abit before then if not oh well no ps3 for me

PS3 will be cheaper than $700. Any money Sony looses it will make back in game sales. They would be dumb to sell it for $700. After all, they aren't dumb because they made the PS3. Having the Blu-Ray disc compatibility will help sell it since Blu-Ray players will be $1000+. (just like when DVD players came out)
Edit: The only bad thing is they are delaying it a bit =/ |

Actully out of all 3 companies, Sony and Microsfot makes the least ammount of money on their games and usually actully looses money on all their systems. And it gets worse as they start to have sales.
Meanwhile Nitendo is actully making money on all their stuff when it first comes out, and as they start to have sales only suffer very minor losses. As for the computer thing, shut up. I don't know where you guys think it costs so much money to own or run a computer. for $250 I got a P4 2.8GHZ system with 1GB of Ram, a 128MB Video Card and a 160GB HD. The only differance in gameplay is the fact you need to buy a controller, and since I can use PS1,PS2,Xbox and Dreamcast controllers on my system, that isn't even a problem. |

Perhaps, but once you throw on OS costs and monitors, not to mention shipping, the price goes up quite a bit. Even those big ol' CRT monitors are still around $100, and Windows XP Home OEM is $89.99. Shipping can get pretty expensive when you're shipping these things, too. |

I'd probably be willing to pay over 1,000 bucks for it.(Although i know the price won't go that high).

You're all going on about the Xbox 360 and the PS3. What about the Revolution? What is that, chopped liver?
Speaking of the 360, the system was released WAAAAYYY earlier than it should have been. How can you tell? Glitches, overheating, hell they even had to recall it. I'm not gonna say anything about the PS3 because I don't mind Sony, nor do I know much about it anyway. I don't really follow the console wars thing all that much. |

Use a free linux distro. OS pricing problems slashed, and the computer will run better.

No, not nessesscarly. A lot of computers come with pre-installed OSes right away, even if you buy off of eBay and even though it isn't legal.
If thats not the case, you can always burrow a copy from someone or even get a burnt disk. It isnt hard at all to get an OS. Plus there are dozens of free OSes out of there, some of the Linux versions will even send you a OS disk for free. The monitor isn't a problem either since you can get a flact screen lcd 12" monitor for as little as $25.00 if you look in the right places. I have a 19" monitor and I can say for myself that is more then enough. If you don't wanna buy a monitor you can always use your TV set. My 128MB video card has an Video and an S-Video out. As for shipping I paid $40 for my computer to be shipped and thats included in the $250.00 I paid for it. Maybe I was just lucky just finding such a deal. Most computer sales throw in the shipping for free now adays though and sometimes even a monitor or a printer. |

XBox does suck, see the many comments in this thread and others for details.
Sony isn't going to release a system that costs more than the others, even if it means taking a big loss in sales in the opening quarter. It would be insanely stupid to do so, so they won't. Your PS3 will cost the same as the Xbox 360 and Revolution, as the consoles always have, and always will. While production costs of the PS3 are high now, they will drop tremendously in just a few years as Sony moves to more eficient manufacturing techniques. It would be in their best interests to take a loss in order to get their console into people's homes. After that, they can make their money back with accessory and game sales. Not to mention, Sony is a huge company, with interests in more than just console gaming. They could probably afford to ship the PS3 at a complete loss and still not bat an eye. The "stock crash" (which wasn't a crash at all, just a slight dip in price) was due to a report by Merill Lynch, a company with no experience in game markets, very little information and a lot of assumptions. Thier report only focused on the manufacturing costs of the console, and found (as should be expected), that it was going to cost more than the retail pricetag. They didn't take into consideration the fact that Sony intends on selling the early models at a loss, or that their production costs would rapidly drop after release. They don't mention the 8 billion other products Sony manufactures which have mighty healthy profit margins, or indeed their game division's other interests. The stock dipped because this company said they think Sony couldn't get the console out on time, or at cost. While Sony is probably upset over the inadequate report, this little piece of paper isn't going to bring the giant down. Sony pwns the console market. No bulling market report will change that. ~X |

Neither xbox or sony systems suck. Now shut up (EVERYONE WHO SAYS ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER!), I have both and I love them because they keep me entertained... isn't that what matters?

What matters is the games, obviously. Only decent games on the XBox have better ports on PC. The XBox had to be recalled and still suffers from crippling overheating problems. The controller is way too bulky and cumbersome for a console, and it's a Microsoft product. It sucks, end of story. Get over it. Sony rules the console market, that's a fact.
