Well I'm not an artist, I'm a coder, but i'm being thrown into drawing art since I do not rip tiles from games :) So.. I have created:

It's zoomed in 200% because its the standard 32x32.. Does this resemble a male character at all? If not, any artists have any productive suggestions on fixing it? ^_^

200% zoom with the 2 animation tiles i've done for him.
Hes missing a leg! O.o;;

Good for a first timer like yourself (I guess?), you'll hate iconing once you get to the animation though. -sigh-

Well its the 1st of the 2 (maby 3) downward walking animations ^_^.. And yeah, i'm reluctantly a first timer ;) I'm trying to go for a more organic grungy look, not the SNES happy shiny look.

Totally, Sadly that doesn't appeal to me though..lol. I like vivid colors and the ohhs and the ahhs @.@;

Well, I'm a music guy also.. here is the feel i'm going for:

Its not exactly a happy hapy snes mood ^_^

I have too many midis i want for a theme, so i decided a differnt one each week ^^;
In response to Karasu Kami
Well I write mine, so I just create whatever theme I want for whatever ^_^

I tried making them...but FL4 (Use to be Fruity loops, but not now, they had to be professional. Lol.) is so damn ignorant and hard to use. Makes it impossible to make anything but loops for n00bs. What do you use to make your midis?
In response to Karasu Kami
I use several things. First, I create the music in a music tool i've used for over 4 years called Modplug Tracker ( http://www.modplug.com/ ). When I'm doing midi music, I use nothing but the instruments in the gm.dls soundbank (for obvious reasons). After that, I export as a midi. The problem is, ModPlug is a module tracker, not a midi tracker. So, naturally, the midi export sucks.. So I then spend about 20 minutes in cakewalk cleaning up the midi file :)

Here is the 'source' module file of that song:

Obviously, from the choppy end sections, i'm not done with it.

Hmm, perhaps i'll try that out
heres my two cents, adjust him so that he doesn't look like crap against multiple backgrounds, also, fix your movement state so that the flow is smoother. (I reshrunk your sprites and ran them in BYOND) they are overall very nice, someone may go "bah, your sprites suxxors" they don't, you have a unique style that is RARELY seen on byond (realism) I applaud you for your use of color and overall design. for a first time sprite, good job man, keep it up ^_^ we need more realism in games...instead of this cartoonish crap (ok...so my latest sprites where cartoonish..eh)

anyways, keep it up!

Thats great, ignore Karasu's babble about it not being very good!

I usually use NWC (Note Worthy Composer)I've been using it for 3 years. It costs $40 but its well worth it. My friend Star313 showed me it.

I'm not sure if its free or not now.

Thanks for your comment. As for blending with the background, these chars will not have an outline, the tileset I'm going to make will fit in, trust me. As for the animation, it SUCKS, I've got major work to do on it -_-.
Is that the whole walk cycle or are you just now finished? If its finished it would be cool if you would animate it :D You should also put it against a light grey background since thats the "invisible" color for byond. Other than that, from what I can see it looks good.

Most professional game studios have a habit of massively exagerrating female features, so in that context it definitely looks male. Other than that, it's kind of ambiguous, although it does seem more male than female.

Is that supposed to be a cowl or helmet, hair, or hair and beard? Clearing that up visually might help. Other than that, I like the style a lot... reminds me a lot of the sort of pixel textures SSI's artists liked to use in a lot of their classic AD&D licensed stuff.

Its a guy with dark-brown hair (I'll add animatinos for each weapon type later.. And as for the grey background, who says this is for byond? :p This is the off topic forum ;)

I found that the other day, its not free. The trial lasts 30 days/10 saves per file.
Man my friend got REALLY bored..
