Lately I have been getting viruses, hackers, and trojans galore. I have been tring to stop them, but they keep coming even after i wipe my harddrives. But of course, after I wipe, i reinstall BYOND. I'm thinking, (not saying this is 100% acurate) is it possible that BYOND is causeing these things? My bro wants me to check this out, and I like BYOND and everything, but I'd rather not use it if it causes me these things, and yes, I DO have a firewall.
i dont know why you are getting those, but it isnt because of byond. I have been using byond for years now and have never got a virus or a trojen or anything else that might cause harm to my computer from byond.
If you are going to icon trading games... I would suggest to stop going to them.

A while back, Greenlime had a virus in one of his games or demos, but he didn't know it was in there.

I used to get viruses from Light Samurai's Icon Trading game... so I stopped going to icon trading games...

Well, BYOND sort of caused my computer to crash once. That was *AFTER* increasing DreamDaemon's priority in Task Manager, though. Horrid, horrid lag.

if you do that with almost anything it slows your computer down, bad.
I can tell you that BYOND installations and updates have never put a virus on my computer -- or if they did, it was a pretty darn lazy one, because it never caused trouble! :)

I can also tell you that -- at least based on 4 years of experience dealing with Dantom -- Dantom is focused on making a good software package that people can use, learn from, and enjoy. I think they scan for viruses before releasing software. And I'd bet just about anything that if a virus did somehow get into BYOND, they'd fix it right away and make a public announcement to warn anyone who might have downloaded an infected version. This isn't some fly-by-night operation... I discovered BYOND in 1999 (before it was even called BYOND!), and even then it was a few years old.

There are viruses that can exploit weaknesses in Microsoft products, so that stuff that should be safe isn't safe. For example, you can get a virus just by reading an email in Outlook Express. Microsoft releases upgrades to fix these problems, but only after many people are already infected.

Anyway, if you search the forums for "virus" you should find some messages about free virus scanning software that might help you get past the problem.
