In ythe days of olde, people would feast, party and be nice to each other on Christmas Day, then give each other gifts in boxes (hence 'boxing') the next day.
I think thats it, anyway.

Not quite... it's the servants (who often had to work on Christmas) who celebrated the day after Christmas. The custom originated in the U.K, where it was traditional to present household servants, post workers, errand runners, etc. with a small "Christmas box." In the United States, this tradition is more often observed with an extra cash tip.

I've heard some very few say "aboot". "Abuot" isn't really right but it's close to the way most say it (particularly in Ontario): "Aboaut". They mispronounce the short O ("ah") as a long O ("oh") or a short U ("uh"), and the -oo portion ("ow" should properly be a quick blend of "ah-oo") tends to get overpronounced. Both of these effects are subtle but they're extremely distinct.
