I know that there are 4 ssj stages Ssj 1, 2, 3, and 4, but is ascended its own stage or is it 2, ans is ssj 1 hair yellow, ascended faint yellow, ssj2 gold, ssj 3 long, ssj 4 black, or how does that go?

Well, according to Goku in the buu saga ssj1 is regular or first, ssj2 is the same as ascended(he said so), and ssj3 is just that. I don't know about ssj4 becuase I havent seen any of DBGT.

Ok, but in some pictures is ssj hair yellow, or a yellow fade, and is ssj2 gold or a yellow fade?

If youll think back to the cell saga, they were walking around as ssj but not powered up. I think this is what your talking about, though correct me if I'm wrong.

As the resident expert, I feel that it is necessary for me to answer this one...lol
(Please note that I don't use the original spelling of "Saiya-jin", so my abbreviations do not contain the "j" at the end) SS1: Yellow hair... For the most part, it's a rich golden color...but there have been some scenes where it was a pale (almost white) shade... However, the most commonly used color for SS1 hair is a golden yellow... SS2: Hair becomes more spiked than in the first level, making the hair look "sharper"... The color becomes a bit more pale, closer to white... Usually, though, the only way to tell pictures apart (especially for Goku) is that all but one of his bangs are now up (SS1 usuallly shows three chunks of hair hanging in his face, level 2 only has one usually) SS3: The hair becomes super long, and the eyebrows are gone... The hair is once again a rich golden yellow color (the same as level 1)... SS4: Red fur covers the arms and stomach (chest is left bare) the hair becomes longer and bushier and remains black... Now, as for the "ascended" Saiyan level... Before FUNimation gave it that term, the fans knew it as "Ultimate Super Saiyan"... It's sort of halfway between level 1 and 2 (level 1.5 if you will...lol) It's pretty much just a pumped up version of level 1... The only fighters that ever displayed this form were Trunks and Vegeta during their fights with Perfect Cell... It's characterized by bulging muscles, and a lot of power... The hair color remains the same, but becomes a bit spikier (not quite as much as level 2, but more than level 1) This form is nnot an efficient one, though...and Trunks and Vegeta quickly find this out... It makes them much slower, because all power is put into strength and not speed... The bulkier body form also slows them down... Now, FUNi uses the term "ascended" when Goku is describing level 2, but they are wrong...lol They are two separate forms... |

One more question SuperSaiyanGokuX, what about the pictures where the hair is pure gold, not yellow/yellow white, just sort of a solid gold? Is it ssj2?

It could be either level 1 or 2... It depends on how the hair is spiked up... Also, in level 2, there is always an aura of blue sparks around the fighter... So if the sparks are there, then it's level 2, if not, then it's probably level 1...

Thier muscles slow them down but they can train in 1000 gravity and move at amazing speeds?
-Sariat PS - I know, those muscles save split seconds, but come on.... |

Well, the difference is negligible, but the small loss of speed was enough for Cell to overcome them...

They (i only really saw U-ssj Trunks) Looked pretty damn bulky to me, i mean his muscle mass went off the scale, i agree that they seemed to move at amazing speeds but its just the pure bulk that brings them down in speed.
But Trunks's hair in USSj is the best in all of DB!! |

The sparks arent always there. Although I cant think of any case examples off the top of my head. I think it was a rule, but it just got left out. (Like all the rules of the Dragonballs)
If I remember right the key give aways are the spikes and colour. Although the colour isnt a good one since depending on the quality of the picture it changes. If only they had of let it end with the Freiza Saga. -DogMan |

Is that by the English version or Japanese? In the English they tend to screw up things like that. Ie, Freiza Saga, Bardock was fighting with Frieza's Forces against Frieza, not fighting against Frieza's Forces to get to Frieza himself.
If I remember right you dont even find out that 17 and 18 where once Human's until Krillin mention's it in passing to Goku during the Buu Saga. -DogMan |

English. I know Funimation cut a lot out, but I get very annoyed watching subtitled action cartoons from Japan.

I agree to some extent, the show did lose a lot of its dramatic quality after the freiza saga.

Yeah, watching anything with sub-titles takes a little out of it (I still prefere the Japanese DBZ, but Id like it more if I knew Japanese).
Im not so annoyed FUNimation cut out the violence and stuff, its more that they changed a lot of the script. That and they made a million Saga's. Great Saiyan Man Saga? Seriously, its like making a 'Farmer with a Shot-gun' Saga. -DogMan |

I meant them editing diolog and such, though I am a big fan of violence it did have to be rated for children by american standards. I agree on the saga thing as well, it just gets a little weird having a saga that runs for less than 20 eps or so.

You probably do know almost as much as I do...
But honestly, and I'm not trying to sound egotistical, but I definitely know my stuff... Anything from DB to DBZ to DBGT and nearly all movies and specials (I haven't seen DB movies 2-4 yet)... So I feel safe in giving myself the title of resident DBZ expert...lol |
