Erm, does anyone else understand what he said??? What makes you think it was a he? Anyway, yes, I understood what the Moderator said. In no uncertain terms, a summary would be "Apologising for swearing only shows that you know you shouldn't be swearing in the first place." |

Pubs and business offices are places that are famous for having 10-12 year olds in them. Oh, wait. They aren't! What's more, no one who only has net access at school or in a public library ever has their computer priveliges taken away when people swear in pubs or business offices. Imagine you have no net at home, you're logged in at your school's computer labs, the room monitor or whatever you have looks over your shoulder, reads a post with offensive language on it, and writes you up for "surfing smutty sites"? They might add byond.com to the list of sites that gets blocked, too, if they do such things at your school, thus decreasing BYOND's potential audience.

Even most teachers will not get mad at a student for stubbing his toe and cursing at the wall in which injered him.And how many of you 10-12 year olds have not heard worce from your parents or other alults. Granted someone cursing like a sailer is not good. But using and exprestion with a curse word in it should not be a problem. And people realy shouldnt be on byond at a school libary. I did go once, to check a post, and it had a curse word or two on it. But it was not just rude. It was in correct context, saying Sless is just like saying Crapless. Just with other words. The only reason they are considered offencive is because people use it out of contect and use it to be rude. I saw none of those there.

That might very well be known by most people, but not by me. ;-) If I had a choice, I'd make the universe such that if a person of my exact specifications were to enter it in some unforeseen circumstances, then said person would be granted the ability to rewrite said universe to said person's whims. Being invincible and otherwise impervious to physical doom would be a given. If I got bored, I could blow up the planet, then feel guilty and bring it back as if nothing had happened! Heck, if I had omnipotent powers, I could blow up the planet then build a new one in its place from scratch, too. The only problem would be storing changes in the timeline and messing with time itself... I'm not that good of a programmer yet. |

If it's just like saying crapless, you should have no problem with a rule that says, "just say crapless."
Yes, most 10 year olds have seen worse. That's not the point. 10 year olds, by and large, are not masters and mistresses of their own destiny. They can get in trouble for viewing pages that have swear words, regardless of context. Why shouldn't they look at BYOND from a school library, if they have the opportunity? Where else can kids get on the internet during the day, 75% of the year? Heck, 22 year olds can be in the same boat as the ten year olds. I don't have a job where I have regular internet access, but when I did, I would be checking the forums during slack periods... at my last job, surfing was allowed, as long as the page being viewed was "appropriate" and wouldn't offend anyone else who happened to be walking by and read the screen. Yes, a single swear word could get someone written up. That, and swear words offend some people here. Why should they get their way? Well, you said it doesn't matter what word you use, that one is the same as the other... and if it doesn't matter to you but it matters to them, why not oblige them? And, if swear words are no different than their synonyms, then why shouldn't everyone willingly obey a rule like, "In the interest of making sure that everyone can use BYOND.com from anywhere they have net access?" If one word is the same as the other, you shouldn't care. |

Forum Moderator wrote: You obviously don't. We've been trying to drill into your head for months that the language you so often lapse into isn't allowed, and you don't even show the quasi-courtesy of apologizing in advance (let alone afterward) for it. The idea that someone would apologize in advance for language and that the apology doesn't excuse them is bound to fly right over your head when you can't figure out there's a need to control your language in the first place. well i think Crap is as much of a curse word as S. The only diffrence is what everyone tells us. Crap is a word made to make poop shound worce, well thats what it is used for anyways. Does the S word not do the same? Now granted, i dont like to pull up beside a car at a stop like and hear some ungodly rap music(not trying to be mean to rap likers), but this is nothing like that. And that south park episode were they say S so much that a huge dragon comes out of the ground will not really happen, im sure. But something tells me ABC would not have a marithon of S.

"What everyone tells us" is how language gets its meaning... common usage and agreement. Now, I will be the first one to say that words like the ones we're talking about shouldn't be objectionable, but we're not talking about what should be, we are discussing what IS.

Their sets of synonyms and alternate uses are actually a little different, so they're not at all the same word. The former is closer to "crud", while the latter is often used with a grungier, wholly unpleasant sort of connotation. This connotation is among the reasons, I think, the S word is considered vulgar. "Crap" is not a cuss word and I'll defend that statement till the day I die. The other one, however, is, by dint of common usage (as Lexy said). Some words are considered vulgar for more than just their meaning. But the meaning is actually different enough if you look beyond the one definition they have in common. Lummox JR |

"Crap" is not a cuss word and I'll defend that statement till the day I die. I always considered it a very low-level cuss word. A cuss cantrip, if you will. |

Digimon World 3(they have an online game in there, and its just like our world, why not?) 2.) Final Fantasy X 3.) The sims(its obvious, but i`d get all the skins i ever wanted first though) 4.) Ragnarok Online(its an okay game) 5.) Alien VS Predator 2(predator, yeaahh) |
