Fighting, no; arguing, only if you get back to the subject and be civil about it. You turned an argument into a fight by being nasty and rude about it; what I meant was to turn it back to a civil argument, or else just let go entirely.

Actually I'd disagree on that; an argument is merely two sides each expressing their points of view and reasoning to back it up. It can be done quite civilly. On the other hand, it can also be done in such a hostile and destructive way that it doesn't really deserve to be called an "argument" so much as a shouting match. The latter, technically incorrect connotation is applied more often to the word, though.
