He could be a Duel Masters fan and might like the style.
http://www.pgnx.net/media/ atari_duelmasterskaijudoshowdown-2.jpg Most likely he is trying to draw anime characters using pixels. In my opinion anime drawing that use pixels don't look right. Its not the same as drawing anime. But AA and shading could help it a bit. |

Umm, I do agree that some AA could help, and some shaping. But, I don't agree that anime doesn't look good as pixels...http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/7480.htm, http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/11367.htm. It looks great, if you do it right.

See that's what I what I was trying to say. When you draw anime it is different than pixeling anime. I know because I do both. When you draw anime a disproportion is all to noticable unless its really bad. But with pixeling you can point out the mistakes right away. For example, the cheek bone on his picture, you can tell that its alittle funky but if it was a drawing you might not notice it that much.
But what I was trying to get across was the fact that his didn't look to good. |

Well that can be said for anything in pixel art. The more details you're trying to achieve/worry about, the harder it is to get it right because pixel art is a precise art. Getting something wrong to look right can come down to just a matter of rearranging a handful of pixels.
